On The Flight [Aug. 18th, 2011|08:44 pm]

Some photos of what I consumed on the flight to Istanbul.

More photosCollapse )

BEFORE DEPARTURE [Aug. 17th, 2011|05:02 pm]

These are just some photos/videos I took before flying to Istanbul. Some candid shots, some candid videos...whatever you want to call them I don't freaking care !
^ First having a meal at KL Central. Thinking about my trip. Excited ? A little bit. I was more concerned about the money that I'd bring. Hoping that I would survive my days in Turkey.
^ This was taken at the airport. My sandals that have taken me to so many great places around the globe. My blue bag pack which also accompanied me to Vietnam in 2010. The new pants that I bought months back but only worn on this trip. The socks...well same old sock that I found chucked somewhere in my room. Feeling melancholy a bit there... UPDATE : The sandals gave up on me in Seljuk but luckily I had brought a new pair with me on this trip. The blue bag pack also gave up on me so I had to buy a new one in Seljuk, cost me 20 Lira ! That was the only time I wore those socks. I was barefeet from Istanbul & back to KL.
^  I also brought some of my favorite cubes with me on this trip ! First time doing so since I started collecting cubes a few months ago. So excited about it. i could solve my cubes while on the road. let people see. Let people wonder. They CAN'T touch my cubes !

After people in Antalya pulled out from hosting me, I gotta make a good decision of where to go next. I didn't want to go to Antalya as it would be further away from Istanbul for me. Further means more money spent and I didn't want to do that.

I just gotta share the story about those people who pulled out from being my hosts.

I was in touch with them like months before this trip. Hoping to that they could host me, save me some money. Just days before I was supposed to reach Antalya, they decided not to host me. One of them was blatantly said no as his family was coming or something !

The other guy, slightly a different story.
First he said he wouldn't be in town for my visit as he's away. Then, he said he would be back. Then he said he was away. I had this feeling that he didn't want to host me anyway ! He just didn't know HOW to say it !
I was not going to put a position as a beggar on my part, begging for a place to sleep ! When he finally said that he could host me, I had made the decision NOT to go to Antalya at all.

Enough about them. let's talk about Seljuk. You can read about it HERE.
Well, I came to there because I wanted to see Euphesus....like the biggest Roman site in Turkey !

From Fethiye, I took a night bus to Aydin about 5 hours' journey. Arrived in Aydin just at dusk. Had tea at the bus station. 2 Liras.
Then, asked where to get a dolmus (a minivan) to Seljuk. Found the dolmus station, just next to the bus station.

Another 1 hour journey to Seljuk & I was there. 6 Liras.
on the dolmus I was sitting at the front, next to the driver & I was dozing off slightly.
Woke up by him & I was in Seljuk.

Finding the hostel ANZ (which I booked for 3 nights at Hostel.com).
The owner was not friendly but that's his character.
he said no breakfast for me, sternly. he said he knew that I'd booked through Hostel.com...the way he said it like he meant business. Fuck you man ! Couldn't you be a little bit friendly. Doom to you !

No breakfast, then no breakfast.

My bed was ready by 10 & I chose a good bed. Unpacked slightly & I continued my nap.

Slowly woke up around 2 pm & took shower. Went out.
Walking towards the 'new' town & withdrew money from my debit card (first time for me).

had time to have a lunch. Can't remember what I consumed but the 3 fucking assholes sitting in front of me sort of gossiping about me. Fuck them dead, took a snap of them.

Also had time to see the Isa Bey Mosque as long as it's free entrance.

Just walking around Seljuk on that first day. had time to even visited the Seljuk Museum. For dinner, I sort of indulged myself with a good dinner that cost me 13 Liras. no tip was given to them.

At the hostel, chatted with a Chinese girl.
Slept well.

The 2nd day in Seljuk, I visited Euphesus. In the evening, chatted with a Korean guy (Joe0 who had traveled to South America & would be going to Granada in Spain to work for a month.

The 3rd day, my lazy chill out day. Just wanted to take it slow...slow slow...
Walking around with no direction. In the evening, chatted with Ray Wong, a Chinese guy from Hong Kong. Also given good advice to another Korean guy about going to Italy, asked him NOT to miss Civita di Bagnoregio.

This is a resort town with LOTS of people. I felt so misplaced here but coming here just to while away the time waiting for my night bus to Seljuk.
I was just walking on the sand, no direction.
Walking along the promenade, no direction.
Some activities like paragliding did amused me. You can read about the place HERE.

I made a day trip to Cumalikizik from Bursa. Pronounced Cu-Ma-La-Ka-Zak. Don't ask me why but if you are interested, get to know the Turkish alphabets, there are 2 "i" alphabet.

It's a pleasant day trip, seeing the Ottoman houses in semi ruins. You can read about it HERE.

I made a day trip from Fethiye to Kayakoy. A ghost town where only the houses remains & the people are gone. That's what this ghost town is all about.
I'm sure there's a story somewhere about this but I'm a little vague. Anyhow, I'm sure it's a good story anyway.
You can read about it HERE.

Fethiye is by the sea. So it looked different to my eyes for this trip. As expected, yachts lining up the marina.

MY BURSA PAGE [Aug. 17th, 2011|02:13 pm]

Bursa is conservative. I could feel it all over the big town.
It was also my next destination in Turkey after Istanbul.

From Istanbul, I took a bus to Bursa. I paid 18 Lira for a 4 hour journey. The journey was okay...but didn't know that I would be crossing the sea (huge lake) on a ferry !

Arrived in Bursa around 5 pm. Walking around the bus station like headless chicken. I was supposed to meet my host called Ibrahim. I had his number but I didn't want to buy a phone card just to call him. tried to ask somebody at an internet place to help me. He did. Somebody even sent me off to a right bus to go to Bursa center. So, Ibrahim was informed that I was coming. Good.

Arrived in Bursa, busy town. Asked some policemen about the direction that I was to take, I showed Ibrahim's address.
After walking around for 30 minutes, I was at Ibrahim's shop...well the place where he works.

He was waiting for me outside. Inviting me inside. It is a shop selling garments mostly children. Looks like his business was doing well. Not his business as he's working for somebody.

At about 7 pm.Ibrahim took me to his house. His brother lived downstairs.
I met his 2 sons but not his wife, understandable as a Muslim woman.

I chatted with him, his brother, his sons (teaching them a bit of English), his nieces. They prepared dinner as well. I felt so welcomed. At 12 am, I went off to bed, prepared by him.

The following day, Ibrahim informed me that he could host me just for 1 night because of Ramadhan (the fasting month). I fully understood the situation. No problem. That one night had shown me your hospitality greatly !

MY ISTANBUL PAGE [Aug. 17th, 2011|02:00 pm]

Istanbul is that place where every traveler wants to go. For people who don't travel, Istanbul is just a name.
It has one part in Asia and another part in Europe.
It has so many things to see.
People say one lifetime is not enough to see Istanbul.
I was there for 5 days (plus 1 day before flying home) so I should see a lot.
No, I didn't.
I didn't want to.
I wanted to be lazy. Strolling around, smoking...eating, drinking. People watching.
No rushing for me and I liked it that way.
